Before the party
Pick your platform early
Choose Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube based on what you subscribe to and which device you'll host on (phone, laptop, or Fire TV / Google TV). Download the right app before guests arrive.
Complete setup ahead of time
First-time host setup includes logging into your music service. Do this before the party so you can tap Host a Party and jump straight to the queue when guests show up.
Seed the queue with a playlist
Load a Spotify or Apple Music playlist—or start with a few crowd-pleasers—so music plays immediately. Guests add requests on top instead of staring at an empty queue.
TV & living-room hosting
The best social jukebox parties put the queue on the big screen. Guests see what's playing, what's next, and how to join.
Use Fire TV or Google TV
Install The Jukebox App on your Amazon Fire TV or Google TV. The TV layout shows album art, the upcoming queue, and a QR code plus party code in the corner—perfect for living-room parties.
Laptop + TV works too
Run the desktop web app on a laptop connected via HDMI. Full-screen the browser for a clean queue view. Pair with a phone as admin for remote control.
Position the QR code
Make sure guests can see the QR code from across the room. On TV, it stays on screen so new arrivals can scan and join without asking you for the code.
Guest experience
Share the party code loudly
Announce the four-letter party code when people arrive. Guests join in The Jukebox App after downloading it for their device—no Spotify or Apple account required.
Explain voting once
Tell guests they can thumbs up or down tracks in the queue. Popular songs rise; unpopular ones fall. It keeps the vibe democratic without chaos.
Set permissions before you open the floor
Decide in advance: guest voting on or off? Song requests allowed? Admin access for co-hosts? Configure these in the menu before the room gets loud.
Host control tips
You're the DJ—the social jukebox gives the room a voice, not a takeover.
- Turn off Admin Access for guests if you don't want random skips.
- Give yourself admin on your phone when hosting on TV so you can fix the queue without walking to the screen.
- Disable voting during speeches or dinner, then turn it back on for dancing.
- Use Change Codes if someone gets admin access they shouldn't have.
Wedding & event tips
For wedding receptions and large events:
- Seed the queue with the couple's favorites and guest-request-friendly genres before the reception starts.
- Display the TV queue near the dance floor so guests see requests play in real time.
- Consider limiting admin access so only the planner or DJ can skip tracks.
- Share the party code on table cards or a sign next to the QR code.
Spotify-specific tips
- Use Group Session if remote friends want to listen along on their phones.
- Route audio to Sonos or other speakers via the Spotify app's device picker.
- Enable X-FADE on mobile for smoother transitions between tracks.
YouTube music-video parties
For video-forward parties, host at swaggeryoutube.com or the YouTube Jukebox TV app. Import a Spotify playlist to build a music-video queue, or let guests search and request videos live.
