What is The Jukebox App?
The Jukebox App turns the classic jukebox idea into a modern party music experience. Instead of one person controlling the playlist—or passing a phone around the room—everyone participates. Guests request tracks, vote songs up or down, and watch the shared queue update while the host stays in control of playback and party settings.
It is designed for house parties, wedding receptions, college gatherings, bar nights, road trips, and any setting where a group wants a shared soundtrack.
What is a social jukebox?
A social jukebox is a collaborative music system for groups. Unlike a static shared playlist, a social jukebox is a hosted session: the host starts a party, connects a music service, and invites guests. Guests contribute requests and votes; the host decides what permissions guests have and controls what actually plays.
The Jukebox App combines party codes, QR join links, real-time voting, song requests, and TV-friendly queue displays—on iPhone, Android, desktop, Amazon Fire TV, and Google TV.
Supported music services
The Jukebox App is not a single streaming app—it is a platform for social listening across services hosts already use:
- Spotify — Core social jukebox on iOS, Android, desktop, Fire TV, and Google TV. Hosts log in with Spotify; guests join with a party code.
- Apple Music — Dedicated host apps on iOS (Auxio) and Android (Swagger Jukebox). Ideal for Apple Music subscribers hosting parties.
- YouTube — YouTube Jukebox for music-video parties via swaggeryoutube.com and TV apps.
Guests do not need a Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube account to join—they only need the host's party code.
How guests join a party
Hosts share a short party code (typically four characters) or display a QR code on the TV queue screen. Guests open the guest app or visit the web guest page, enter the code, and optionally set a nickname. From there they can browse, search, request songs, and vote—depending on what the host allows.
Host control & guest permissions
The host always controls playback. In the party menu, hosts can toggle guest voting, song requests, skip permissions (admin access), and other settings. This prevents a free-for-all while still letting the room shape the music.
TV & living-room hosting
For the best party experience, many hosts run The Jukebox App on a Fire TV or Google TV connected to a living-room display. The TV view shows now playing, the upcoming queue, and a QR code so guests can join instantly. Desktop and laptop hosting works well when connected to a TV or projector.
