Frequently Asked Questions

Everything hosts and guests ask about The Jukebox App—social jukebox parties on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. Party codes, voting, TV hosting, weddings, and more.

General

What is The Jukebox App?
The Jukebox App is a social jukebox that lets hosts and guests request, vote on, and participate in controlling music at parties and group gatherings. The host stays in control while guests join from their phones.
What is a social jukebox?
A social jukebox lets a group participate in choosing music instead of leaving the entire playlist to one person. Guests request songs, vote on the queue, and see what plays next while the host controls the session. See our About page for more.
Is The Jukebox App free?
Yes. The Jukebox App is free to download and use on supported platforms. Hosts need an active subscription to the music service they connect (Spotify Premium, Apple Music, etc.).
Can The Jukebox App be used at a party or wedding?
Yes. It is designed for house parties, wedding receptions, college events, bar nights, and road trips—anywhere a group wants collaborative music with guest song requests and voting.

Music services

Does The Jukebox App work with Spotify?

Does The Jukebox App work with Apple Music?
Yes. Apple Music parties use dedicated apps: Auxio on iOS and Swagger Jukebox on Android. Download links are on the homepage download section.
Does The Jukebox App work with YouTube?
Yes. YouTube parties use the YouTube Jukebox web app at swaggeryoutube.com and TV apps. Guests join with the host's party code after the host starts a YouTube session.

Guests & joining

How do guests join a Jukebox party?
Guests enter the host's party code in The Jukebox App after downloading the app for their device. Hosts can also display a QR code on the TV queue screen for instant join.
Do guests need an account?
No. Guests do not need a Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube account. They need the party code (and optionally a nickname) to request and vote.
Can guests request songs?
Yes. Guests can request songs for the queue from their phones. Hosts can allow or restrict requests in the party menu.
Can guests vote on songs?
Yes. Guests vote tracks up or down. Hosts toggle this with Allow Guest Voting in the menu (default is on).

Hosting & control

Can The Jukebox App be used on a TV?
Yes. Host on Amazon Fire TV or Google TV with the TV apps, or run the desktop web app on a computer connected to your TV. The TV view shows now playing, the queue, and a QR code for guests.
Can guests skip songs? Can I turn that off?
Yes—you can toggle guest skip permissions with Allow Admin Access in the menu. Turn it off to prevent guests from skipping songs.
What is Admin Access?
Admin Access gives guests elevated privileges: remove songs, control playback, and add more votes. Share the admin password only with people you trust. If hosting on a TV, give yourself admin access from your phone for easier queue control.
Can I change the party code or admin password?
Yes. Use Change Codes in the menu. Changing the party name kicks everyone out—leave it blank or re-enter the current name to keep the party going.
Do I have to set up every party from scratch?
No. After your first setup, tap Host a Party and you'll return to the queue screen quickly for subsequent parties.
Can I cross-fade songs?
Yes on Spotify iOS and Android—choose X-FADE under the now-playing track. Cross-fade is not available on desktop or TV versions.

Audio & technical

Can I play music through Sonos?
Yes. Choose your Sonos speaker in the Spotify mobile app. If hosting on a computer, use Change Playback Device in the menu and select Sonos in the Spotify app.
Can I play music on multiple phones in different locations?
Yes with Spotify Group Session. The host shares their Group Session link so listeners can sync on their own phones.
Why do I log in through a browser for initial setup?
Android and iOS require OAuth music logins (Spotify, etc.) to run in a web browser for security. After initial setup, hosting is much faster.
How do I delete my account and data?
On mobile, select Delete Account in the menu. Also deauthorize The Jukebox App at Spotify.com if you no longer plan to use the service.
